I was 10 years old when a TV series called The Rat Patrol first aired, and I've been obsessed with the North African campaign of WWII ever since; perhaps the atoms that make up my body once resided in those that fought and died in this historic conflict. Whatever
the case may be, I enjoy imagining moments that might have occurred during the course of this campaign by assembling and painting hobby kits and figures and composing them in digital sets.
I began working at 172nd to hone my assembling, bashing and painting skills before proceeding to 135th, and what follows are two of my earliest efforts. 21 June 1942: Rommel seizes the port city of Tobruk and is promoted to Field Marshal shortly thereafter. 13 May 1943: Staff Sergeant Don “Wardaddy” Collier is brought up on charges for pistol whipping a senior officer of the 10th Panzer division and, following minor disciplinary action, returns to his crew mates to find that they’d named their unit ‘Fury’.
